The Central City Girls’ Golf team competed at the NSAA Class C State Golf Championships in North Platte last Monday and Tuesday, marking the Bison’s first time qualifying since 2012. Leading the Green and Gold at the rainy Lake Maloney Golf Course was junior Cyah White Bull, who carded a score of ninety-eight on Monday and ninety-four on Tuesday.

Some of the Class D notables in Nebraska went head-to-head for a shot to compete at the NSAA Class D State Cross Country Championships last Thursday in the hills of rural York County. Among those running at the Class D-4 Meet at Camp Kateri south of McCool Junction were the boys and girls from Nebraska Christian.

On the first drive of last Friday’s game between Central City and Broken Bow, Bison quarterback Parker Zikmund punctuated a long series with a six-yard touchdown pass to Luke McHargue. That scoring strike put the senior gunslinger into the Central City record books, marking Zikmund’s sixty-fourth career passing touchdown - a new school record.

The Central City Bison managed to end last week’s LouPlatte Conference tournament on a high note. The Bison placed fifth in the conference fray after they powered past both Wood River and Ravenna in the consolation rounds.

Central City falls to Hastings St. Cecilia in state championship thriller Two teams were searching for their first-ever state title in Monday’s NSAA Class C State Softball Championship game between Central City and Hastings St.

Central City’s State Tournament run got off to a rocky start as the Bison suffered a first round, 15-6 loss to Kearney Catholic. The Stars were red hot at the plate, producing thirteen hits and fifteen RBIs as they sent the Bison into the bottom half of the bracket.

Every hurdle imaginable stood between Central City and a second round win over NEN at the NSAA State Softball Championships, but the Bison managed to pull off the impossible last Thursday with a 7-4 victory.

Things went down to the wire in Central City’s third round game with Yutan/ Mead, but with a state championship appearance in sight, the Bison used a late rally to come away with a 6-4 victory. Things didn’t look great early on for the Green and Gold.

Central City had a mountain to climb if they wanted to punch their ticket to the NSAA Class C State Softball Championship game. Waiting for the Bison in the semifinal round was the defending state champions, Bishop Nuemann.
