Someone had to lose last Tuesday’s game between Nebraska Christian and Archangels Catholic. On the court in Central City, the two state tournament hopefuls went toe-to-toe, made multiple runs, and brought things down to the wire, but despite standout performances from Nebraska Christian’s Sheridan Falk and Taytum Perdew, the Defenders were able to make a late run for a 4642 victory.

Central City competes at Adams Central, York The Central City Bison got their first taste of tournament competition on the mats on Saturday, and while the Green and Gold picked up a pair of gold medals during the event, the early season competition left the Bison hungry for more. On Saturday, the Bison joined fourteen other teams at the York Invitational.

After a sluggish start, High Plains picked up the defensive intensity and relied on a pair of standout seniors for offense to grab a 43-32 season opening win over Grand Island Lutheran last Thursday. For eight minutes, the High Plains and Grand Island Lutheran girls’ basketball teams couldn’t get any separation.

With little depth on their roster this season, every match is going to matter for members of the High Plains Storm boys’ wrestling program. That fact was illustrated for the first time this season on Friday, as three members of the Storm’s team competed at the Dom Reicks Invitational at Ravenna High School.

On the heels of a dominant 61-8 win over Gibbon in their season opener, the Central City Bison suffered their first loss of the season last Saturday when they fell to LouPlatte Conference foe Ord 68-41.

St. Mary’s led throughout the entirety of the first quarter in last Saturday’s game with Nebraska Christian. However, some stout defense and a standout performance from Sheridan Falk pushed the Eagles to their second win of the season, 47-37.

A fast-paced first quarter put High Plains at a five-point deficit and, throughout the rest of their contest with Grand Island Lutheran, the Storm were never able to recover as they suffered a 49-41 loss in their season opening game.

Through the first two games of the season, the Central City girls’ basketball team is 2-0 with an average margin of victory of almost forty-two points. Following a 62-16 win over Gibbon in their season opener, the Green and Gold welcomed Ord to the Bison Dome last Saturday and sent the Chanticleers home with a 71-34 loss behind double-digit scoring efforts from Reagan Fousek, Sydni Homolka, and Journi Schindler.

The Bison’s lineup on the mat this winter came into focus last Wednesday at Central City High School as family and fans filled the stands to watch the local team’s annual wrestle-off held at the middle school gymnasium.
