After jumping out to a 10-1 record to start the season, the Nebraska Christian volleyball team hit their first skid of the season with back-to-back losses to Adams Central and Boone Central. Last Thursday on their home court, the Eagles got back on track when they went 1-1 at their home triangular with Elgin/Pope John and Riverside.
Central City was in a hunt for some individual and team hardware when the Bison made the trek up Highway 14 to the Tom Dickey Invite last Friday afternoon. On the course at the Albion Country Club, the Green and Gold did everything they could to secure hardware, with the Bison placing second at the meet behind the host Cardinals from Boone Central High School.
Nebraska Christian’s Jacob Swanson, the returning fourth place finisher at the 2024 State Cross Country Championships, posted the fastest 5,000-meter time of his varsity career to take home a first place finish at last Thursday’s Roger Nielsen Invitational in Central City.
It was an up-anddown week for the High Plains volleyball team last week. After winning four of their first six matches to begin the season, the Storm now find themselves holding a 6-6 record after a pair of wins over Palmer and H&H, and losses to Cross County, GICC, Hershey, and Ord.
Howells-Dodge’s Hunter Luther reached the end zone three times in the first nine minutes of last Friday’s game between Nebraska Christian and the Jaguars. Despite some defensive adjustments, the Eagles were unable to keep pace with the visitors and suffered their fourth loss of the season, 44-6.
In last Friday’s 53-0 trampling of Nebraska City, Central City’s Corbin Kyes broke Central City’s all-time career rushing touchdowns record and helped the Green and Gold secure their fourth win of the season.
Five of the top twenty runners at last Thursday’s Roger Nielsen Cross Country Invitational in Central City were sporting Nebraska Christian uniforms, helping push the Eagles to a second place finish on the course at Valley View Country Club.
The Central City Volleyball team is starting to find their rhythm. During a busy slate of matches last week, the Lady Bison posted a 5-1 record, bringing their overall season mark to 8-6.
For the third straight week, the Central City Football team triggered a running clock in a dominant victory. Last Friday at Kuper Field in Minden, the Bison used a series of big plays and an impressive defensive performance to shutout the Whippets 42-0, improving their record to 3-0.
