Nebraska Christian blows past Elba in tournament’s consolation finals Early in the season, Nebraska Christian’s game with Archangels Catholic came down to a last-second shot. In Thursday’s semifinal round of the Goldenrod Conference Tournament, the two teams went down to the wire once again, with the Defenders edging out another win, 50-44.

The Central City Bison placed third at the LouPlatte Conference Wrestling Tournament, with the Green and Gold using the conference fray to get a look at competition both familiar and unknown. On Saturday, on the mats at Ravenna High School, the Bison had four finalists, three of whom secured gold medals.

On their home mat last Tuesday, the Nebraska Christian Eagles hosted Fullerton and Cross County/Osceola for a triangular. The Warriors bested the hosts 66-12 with the Eagles winning two matches.

The Central City girls had a busy slate last week. On Tuesday, the Green and Gold coasted to a 72-6 win over Schuyler behind nineteen points from Reagan Fousek.

Following a fourgame losing skid, the Central City boys rattled off back-to-back wins going into their home meeting with Schuyler. Against the Warriors, that streak would increase to four games as the Green and Gold coasted to a 65-21 victory.

Offensive struggles hurt Nebraska Christian in last Tuesday’s Goldenrod Conference Tournament game with Central Valley as the Cougars kept their tournament lives alive with a 54-34 win. Central Valley jumped out to a 14-7 lead after one quarter, but the Eagles came soaring back in the second with fourteen points.

The Central City girls’ wrestling team had no trouble picking up hardware at the LouPlatte Conference Wrestling Tournament last week. The Bison had three champions at the conference meet, with several others snagging hardware.

Thursday’s game between High Plains and Nebraska Lutheran was as back and forth as it gets. After leading throughout a majority of the contest, the Storm fell behind late, used a late surge to force overtime, and eventually fell to the Knights 51-49.

St. Paul shot the lights out of the Bison Dome last Tuesday in Central City, making sixteen three-pointers on the way to a 69-45 win over the hosts.
