After suffering losses in two of their last three contests, the Bison were hungry for a victory. On Tuesday against NEN (Pender), the Bison would get that victory in impressive fashion.

Nebraska Christian and High Plains both came into last Thursday’s meeting with one blemish on their records. Somebody was going to leave with their second loss of the season and, due to standout performances from Nebraska Christian’s Sheridan Falk and Cara Sidak, that loss went to the Storm.

It has been an up and down first three weeks of the season for the Central City Volleyball team. The Bison began the year by winning three of their first four matches, but have recently faced their share of struggles as they came out of last week on the bitter end of a four-game losing streak.

Central City’s Buhlke leads Bison at last week’s Ron Priebe Invite The Central City girls’ cross country team delivered an impressive performance at last Thursday’s Ron Priebe Invitational at Gibbon’s Valley View Municipal Golf Course, clinching the overall team title after three Bison placed in the top four of the fifty- three-runner field. Throughout the entirety of the 5,000 meter race, Central City’s Amelia Buhlke and Janaya Davis were at the front of the pack with Broxlynn Fast of Amherst.

One year ago, it took two overtime periods to decide a winner between Central City and Cozad. While the Haymakers escaped with that win in 2024, the Bison got revenge last Friday when they coasted to a dominant 48-7 victory on Cozad’s home field.

Last Thursday in Central City, the hosting Bison got the upper hand in their rivalry game with Centura, besting the Diamonds behind a standout pitching performance from Payton Burbach. The Green and Gold came into the meeting looking to keep their unbeaten record intact and, in the bottom of the first inning, made strides toward that goal when a double from Journi Schindler was followed by an RBI single by Emma Brandes and a fielding mishap by the Diamonds, giving the Bison a quick 2-0 advantage.

Four quarters wasn’t enough to decide a winner in last Friday’s game between the High Plains Storm and the Palmer Tigers. High Plains came into the meeting holding a 1-0 record while the Orange and Black was still searching for its first mark in the win column.

The Central City Volleyball team kicked off last week by sweeping Centennial on Tuesday but, two days later, suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Centura, falling 3-1 on the Green and Gold’s home court.
