RANKIN, JEFFERSON SELECTED FOR GIRLS STATE

Hadassah Rankin of Nebraska Christian Schools and Chloe Jefferson of Central City High School have been selected to attend American Legion Auxiliary Cornhusker Girls State from May 31st until June 6th on the campus of the University of Nebraska—Lincoln. The two delegates were selected based on selected criteria through the auxiliary unit or through their high schools. They will study local, county, and state government processes in this nonpartisan political learning experience. Every spring, the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Program provides approximately 25,000 young women with a hands-on educational opportunity designed to instruct tomorrow’s leaders in the privileges and duties of responsible citizenship.

10 YEARS AGO Merrick County Veterans Services Officer Gary Berry is nearing retirement from his post and looking forward to a new phase of his life. Berry has made service his life’s work, first as a draftee into the jungles of Vietnam, then as funeral director in Holdrege and Central City for thirty- two years, and now as a source of help for his fellow veterans.

Nebraska Christian awards twenty-six diplomas Equipped with a strong faith and a solid education, twenty-six students turned their tassels on Saturday during Nebraska Christian Schools’s annual commencement exercises. With Bibles in hand, the twenty- six students marched into the gymnasium on the school’s campus in rural Central City, with Superintendent Timothy Hekrdle noting that, each of the students had been educated according to the school’s mission.
