STUDENTS AT PALMER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL got a jumpstart on celebrating America’s 250th birthday on Monday night during the elementary spring concert. This year’s program featured a variety of music with patriotic themes, and some special cameo appearances by the founding fathers and iconic sites in the county. Above, Shay Hinrichs stands tall as the Statue of Liberty during the fourth grade’s performance.

CENTRAL CITY MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS Adalyn Stranberg, Realynn Varley, Huck Wegner, and Damon Michalski recently earned first place in the stock market game. Out of over 100 teams in the middle school division in Nebraska, the Central City students earned the top position. Students started with a fictional $100,000.00 in September. After learning about companies, stocks, risk, and diversification in their Business 7 class, they researched and invested in companies. They finished the game in December with $113,496.00!

DESTINATION: CENTRAL CITY

THE CENTRAL CITY AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE Kicked off National Tourism and Travel Week with Central City Media Day on Friday. Invited guests had the chance to begin their day by hearing from community leaders at the Central City Performing Arts Center, then toured a variety of local businesses and sites around Central City. Above, Suzanne Philippi speaks to the community’s guests about the importance of the arts, while Central City Mayor Tim Bolling looks on.

10 YEARS AGO Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City participated in an innovative twenty-three county regional pandemic influenza exercise developed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). A multi-grade level group of Nebraska Christian students spent a good share of their Tuesday morning and afternoon preparing and then delivering meals to the officers and staff of the Central City Police Department.

MIDLAND AREA AGENCY ON AGING and the Central City Senior Center—The Good Life Center—want to Thank their forty-plus volunteers that help the center run smoothly. It takes a village to put out 14,000 meals a year, answer numerous calls, keep the facility clean, and keep the sidewalks cleared and safe.
