10 YEARS AGO Jimmie Jackson, great-grandson of Buffalo Soldier Benjamin Jackson, received a tri-cornered United States flag from the hands of World War II veteran Millard Nouzovsky, the oldest living member of the American Legion Post #6 during a ceremony in the Buffalo Soldier’s honor. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the grand opening of TriJuvenate, owned by Anna McHargue who is a certified natural health professional.

PPS CALLS FOR SPECIAL BOND VOTE

On July 14th, residents in the Palmer Public Schools district will vote by mail on a proposed $6.95 million school bond aimed at addressing safety, security and space needs at the school. The bond measure would allow the district to issue general obligation bonds to fund a series of facility improvements, including a Federal Emergency Management Agency-rated storm shelter large enough to house the entire school, four new classrooms, a secure entrance, a second gymnasium and additional instructional space.

Hamilton continues to expand fiber network in area

Hamilton Telecommunications, a leading provider of fiber-optic broadband in Nebraska, recently announced plans for buildouts bringing fifty miles of new, buried fiber-optic cable to Ord and 152 miles to St. Paul and rural Howard County. The recent projects come on the heels of an “immense undertaking” to replace cable in all of its existing coverage area with fiber, a project spanning nearly 3,000 square miles and twenty-nine communities.

FIVE LOCAL STUDENTS SELECTED FOR BOYS STATE

The American Legion Post 6 recently announced that five Central City area youth were generously sponsored by Central City American Legion Post 6, Monroe American Legion Post 322, Citizens Bank & Trust Co., and Archer Credit Union and will join nearly 300 other high school juniors from across Nebraska participating in the American Legion Cornhusker Boys’ State Program from May 31st until June 6, 2026, at the University of Nebraska—Lincoln downtown campus. The annual citizenship program, sponsored by the Nebraska American Legion, is designed to provide youths with a better understanding of how city, county and state governments operate.

Beef is an experience

Sometime around the late 1980’s, I ran into a picture of a steak on a grill cut to reveal it was cooked rare. The caption on it was: “Beef is an experience.” For those of you in the beef industry who were around in the 1980’s, this picture and the caption would make sense.
