Jeff Jensen • Superintendent On Thursday, June 18th, the Republican-Nonpareil published an article regarding the Central City Public Schools Special Board Meeting that was held on June 9th. We appreciate their attention to this special board meeting and their coverage. In reality, most patrons had no idea that over the course of the last two months, the district had dealt with some complex and difficult financial information. Further, multiple government entities within the community had been dealt a difficult scenario to navigate which included Central City Public Schools, the City of Central City, Merrick County, and other entities within Merrick County.

10 YEARS AGO Dozens of area Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts–along with Cubs, Daisies, and Brownies–got a hands-on lesson on the proper way to dispose of an unserviceable flag during a ceremony sponsored by American Legion Post #6 last Tuesday afternoon. Nebraska author Charlotte Endorf spent Friday afternoon at the Central City Public Library presenting her research in the persona and dress of late 1800s sharpshooter Annie Oakley.

CCPS BUDGET TAKES HIT

The Central City school district is currently facing a loss of more than $400,000 in revenue for its current fiscal year. Last Tuesday afternoon, members of the Central City Board of Education held a special meeting to approve allowing Merrick County to process a payment of $379,253.87 utilizing district tax dollars.
