Central City is gearing up for a nearly week-long celebration of community spirit and entertainment as Lone Tree Days 2023 approaches. From Thursday, June 29, to Tuesday, July 4, the Central City Area Chamber of Commerce has organized a lineup of activities that promise to bring joy and excitement to residents and visitors alike.

Nelson Brothers Fencing, a local fencing company, has been making waves in the community with their exceptional service and commitment to customer satisfaction. Founded in April 2022, the company has quickly gained popularity and has successfully completed numerous projects in various communities.

On Wednesday, June 14th, a special family fishing event was hosted by the Platte PEER group, out at Bader Park. For the family fishing event, Chuck Griffith and Hannah Clark were able to bring in the fishing trailer from Nebraska game and parks.

Creating Shade If you catch yourself saying, “I wish we had more shade around the house,” now’s the time to make plans. Shade trees provide the most benefits when planted on the south or west side of your house, but that doesn’t mean you may not also need shade in additional locations.

In a thrilling finale at the USSSA C State Championship game, the Central City Runza Stampede 18U emerged victorious over the Wildcats 18U, securing the championship title. The key to their success was the exceptional performance of pitcher Payton Burbach, who showcased brilliance in the pitcher’s circle on that momentous Sunday. Burbach achieved an extraordinary feat by throwing a no-hitter, leading the Stampede 18U to a resounding 6-0 triumph.

Summer is officially upon us as the days have grown in length and the temperature is on the rise. With it some big traditions are back once again as we look forward to Lone Tree Days and the Merrick County Fair. Before that we will see, and hear, the signs that Independence Day is just around the corner.

2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the Nebraska Press Association and in April, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen made an appearance at the association’s convention with a special announcement. Gov. Pillen issued an in-person special proclamation designating the week of June 26th -- 30th, 2023 as Community Newspaper Week in Nebraska. In addition, the Nebraska Legislature adopted Legislative Resolution 87 to congratulate NPA on its Sesquicentennial year.
