Last week the Central City Xplosion 14 and under softball team won the District 5 championship, team members include Kaylee Hostler, Savanna Tejeda, Elena Dahlke, Frankie Hendricks, Corrina Beyard, Abbie Hillmer, Alyx Gragg, Bailey Manhart, Maddie Young, Kenzie Rinkol, Sierra Boroviak and Leah Buller. The team is coached by Len Marco, Melissa Gragg, Scott Gragg and Andy Manhart.

Stampede 18U earns USSSA C State Championship

In a thrilling finale at the USSSA C State Championship game, the Central City Runza Stampede 18U emerged victorious over the Wildcats 18U, securing the championship title. The key to their success was the exceptional performance of pitcher Payton Burbach, who showcased brilliance in the pitcher’s circle on that momentous Sunday. Burbach achieved an extraordinary feat by throwing a no-hitter, leading the Stampede 18U to a resounding 6-0 triumph.

Community Newspaper Week honored

2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the Nebraska Press Association and in April, Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen made an appearance at the association’s convention with a special announcement. Gov. Pillen issued an in-person special proclamation designating the week of June 26th -- 30th, 2023 as Community Newspaper Week in Nebraska. In addition, the Nebraska Legislature adopted Legislative Resolution 87 to congratulate NPA on its Sesquicentennial year.
