Central City’s historic Community Sale continues

For over 90 years, residents have gathered at 7 p.m. on Thursday night, at the community sale barn located on the north side of Central City on Ormsby Road. Established in 1931 by Elmer Galusha, this enduring tradition continues under the stewardship of his son, Harry Galusha, the sole remaining family member actively involved in its operations.

After serving two years on the job, Tad Hunt resigned as CEO of Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital after accepting a similar position at Crete Area Medical Center in Crete. Central City’s 28th annual Lone Tree Days celebration beings with some activities this weekend and will run to July 6 with the theme being “Lincoln Highway Centennial Celebration,” honoring 100 years of the famed highway.

On Monday, June 12, 2023, the YWCAof Grand Island was buzzing with excitement as Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) gathered for their highly anticipated annual picnic. The event brought together Bigs, Littles, their families, board members, and staff for an evening of connection, games, and celebration. Generously supported by Sam’s Club and the board of directors, attendees enjoyed a delightful dinner before the much-anticipated awards ceremony took center stage.

Rural Workforce Housing honored

The South Central Economic Development District (SCEDD) celebrated the success of its involvement in the Rural Workforce Housing Fund with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by special guest Senator Loren Lippincott, Mayor Tim Bolling, McHargue Builders and many visitors who were in Central City for the HomeNE housing workshop held in Central City last Thursday. The event highlighted the significant impact of the program in addressing the pressing housing needs of rural communities in the state.
