Distant Learning: Local students gain firsthand appreciation for our nation’s capital

Not only did local students leave the Washington D.C. trip with a greater appreciation, but so did the adults. Left to right from top left: Under the guidance of their trusty tour guide Mike, Roxanne Brandes and Carly Johnson search for the name of William “Bill” Stubbe who graduated from Central City High School before paying the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. Dr. Kristen Hermansen-Ryan did the same while local veteran Josh Zimmerman paused to pay respect to those who were lost in the Vietnam war.

Senator Fischer’s staff to visit Tue.

U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) has announced that her staff will be hosting local office hours for constituents in Merrick and Nance Counties. The office hours will provide a valuable opportunity for residents to meet directly with Senator Fischer’s staff and seek assistance with federal-level casework and other issues. Josh Jelden, Senator Fischer’s Central Nebraska Constituent Services and Outreach Director, will be present at the designated locations on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

Memorial Day in DC

Members of the incoming Central City High School freshman class had a Memorial Day to remember as they were able to take in the beauty of Washington DC. The group even paid respect to a local hero at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. More to come next week.

MMC Health Professions and Auxiliary Healthcare Career Scholarship Recipients Named

Each year the Merrick Medical Center Foundation offers scholarships to area High School Seniors who are pursuing a career in healthcare. The funds for the Health Professions Scholarships are made possible by the sports physical program in area schools. The provider’s and staff from the Central City Medical Clinic generously donate their time at Sports Physical night to ensure that ALL proceeds can be given back to area students through scholarships. The 2023 Central City Medical Clinic Health Professions Scholarships recipients are: Taylor Anderson, Fullerton Public Schools; Marlie Mundt, Nebraska Christian; Derek Pfeifer, Central City Public Schools and Dylan Pfeifer, Central City Public Schools.

Chapman Kids take part in seting up flags for Memorial Day

In preparation for Memorial Day, many local families gathered at the Chapman cemetery to put up flags on all the graves and along the roads in the cemetery. A job usually done by adult volunteers, the Chapman Cemetery Board decided to bring the kids out to take part in it and give them a chance to learn about Memorial Day and what it means.

April Showers? Not! - Drought Damage in Lawns What happened to our April showers? The Lincoln area received only 0.59 inches of rain – measured at the Lincoln Airport - instead of our normal 2.69 inches for April. May is not looking good either – only 0.49 inches so far, compared to our normal 4.91 inches.
