Daily Activity Report Monday, April 24 Officer responded to a citizen assist in the 1500 block of 15th Street, Situation resolved. Officer responded to a suspicious vehicle in the area of 20th Avenue and 22nd Street, contact made, situation resolved.
In January of 2021 it was announced that Central City Public Schools would embark on a construction project that would bring a monolithic dome structure to Central City. It was also mentioned that there was a group interested in holding an event at the venue in 2023.
The Miss Rodeo Nebraska Association is set to host its annual pageant, with four contestants vying for the coveted title of Miss Teen Rodeo Nebraska. Among the contestants is 18-year-old Hannah Siwinski of Central City, who is poised to make a strong showing in the competition.
This past week an overwhelming show of support was given to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball team as they played their spring exhibition match in the Bison Activity Dome here in Central City. On Friday that team rolled into town with a warm reception from the community as the Central City High School band played the school’s fight song as players exited the bus. On Saturday it was game day as the Huskers battled Wichita State in three sets as they swept the Shockers. Following the contest the team acknowledged the support of the sold-out crowd (top photo) while local youth volleyball players served as the ball girls for the match and got to share in the special moment. Following the match an autograph session was held (bottom photo) where incoming freshman Laney Choboy signs the shirt of Jayma Kroksh while little sister Tenley looks on with a big smile. The event was a memorable one.
Those were the last words Aaron Stephenson said to his mother, Central City resident Karen Stephenson. The two spoke by telephone in January of this year, in a seemingly routine conversation. But the events that followed would change the significance of those words forever.
