Each year we all see the social media post and read the newspaper headlines telling us that the Central City Public Library was once again selected as one of the most prestigious libraries in the United States. It is easy to begin to forget just how big of an accomplishment the recognition is when it comes each year, but when a person slows down to think about the library’s run of success, it truly is amazing.

On December 27th, the Lincoln Manor began their soft opening. The new owners, Jay and Jigna Patel, bought the Lincoln Manor back in April of last year. Since then, they have been working on renovating the restaurant and getting the staff hired. Opening the restaurant up to the public again. Many People have been very excited for the reopening of the historical steakhouse, ever since word got out of it coming under new ownership.

Tuesday marked the first official work day of 2023 and for some it was a delayed start while others were in for an early morning or even a late night on Monday. Monday evening rain began to turn to ice leading to slick roads and a limited amount of power outages in the area. By Tuesday morning the sheet of ice was covered with a few inches of snow to complicate matters as crews began to clean up the hazardous roads and sidewalks. It was a busy day for City of Central City employees who were called on to clean up the snow and ice. Other city employees, like Tom Horton (bottom photo) were called on to clean up parking lots and sidewalks like those at The Good Life Center. By Tuesday afternoon snow once again made a return to remind us that winter is upon us.

Merrick Medical Center recently received a 2022 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Outcomes. Compiled by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards honor top quartile performance (e.g., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in Quality, Outcomes and Patient Perspective.

How important is Long Term to you? That was the question asked at a September Merrick County Board of Supervisors meeting and many community members responded with great support for Litzenberg Long Term Care in the weeks following. Community members will have another opportunity to let their voice be heard Wednesday, January 11, as the Board of Supervisors and the Litzenberg Memorial Merrick County Long Term Care Board hold a joint public meeting.
