The estate of the late RExford and Donna Ferris has left $126,000 to the Merrick County Historical Museum. Both Rex and Donna were active members of the museum volunteer staff.
Last summer’s dry conditions were hard on lawns and this spring many unirrigated lawns are showing dead patches or thinned grass stands. These areas are pretty easy to spot now.
The 2023 Merrick County 4-H Shotgun contest was held on Saturday, April 22nd at the Sportsman’s Club. 11 4-Hers attended the contest. Rex Ferris was the Grand Champion Jr shooter and Lincoln Reeves was the Reserve Champion. In the Sr. division, Nathaniel Heins received Grand Champion and Cooper Kremer received Reserve Champion.

The City Council of Central City has seen some changes in recent months, but it appears that the puzzle pieces have fallen into place after Monday night’s monthly meeting of the council. As Mark Dreher resigned from the City Council to fill the vacant Chief of Police position with the Central City Police Department, the move left a void on the Council.
The Heartland United Way and Greater Grand Island Community Foundation hosted the 10th annual Go Big GIVE event on Thursday, May 4, with a record-breaking total by raising $1,653,234 with 5,013 donations for 157 local nonprofits in Merrick,Hall, Hamilton and Howard Counties.
The Central City Police Department is urging drivers to buckle up during the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) national Click It or Ticket high-visibility enforcement effort. The national seat belt campaign, which coincides with the Memorial Day holiday, runs from May 15 to June 4, 2023.
When University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball coach John Cook took to the floor to speak after the Husker volleyball match at the Bison Activity Dome, he mentioned the pair of boots that he was wearing. Cook also mentioned how they were made by local craftsman Russ Saunders, here in Central City. While Coach Cook usually only uses the boots when he is out riding horses, he made sure to sport them to the match in Central City where the boots hold their origin story.
The Husker Volleyball game on Saturday was a great day of sports and entertainment for many people. For Sarah Person however, it was a big highlight in a budding and exciting career in sports Journalism.
