Stock Market Champions

If you need some tips on how to invest perhaps look no further than Central City Middles School where (left to right) Elise Bearnes, Braiden Williams-Varley and Dominic Howells were recently honored as champions of the Stock Market Game defeating 64 other middle school teams. The trio earned the victory by earning $8,569 on their hypothetical $100,000 investment in just one semester.

Central City letter carrier Dave Benner, with the assistance of Chris Benner, collected non-perishable food items as part of the National Association of Letter Carriers National Food Drive. 700 pounds of food were collected by the Central City Post Office.

A Spirea for Every Landscape For 2023, the National Garden Bureau’s shrub of the year is Spirea, which unfortunately often gets overlooked during the spring buying-rush as old-fashioned and uninteresting. In reality, spireas are tough, easy-to-grow shrubs and a workhorse in modern landscapes.

One of the overarching purposes of government is to preserve peace and, when peace is violated, to provide justice for all. Unfortunately, however, governments–even at the state level— are behaving more as instruments for redistribution of wealth. People are looking more and more toward government to provide for their needs and even their wants (which go far beyond needs).

Three area schools honor Class of 2023

High school graduation is a momentous event in the life of a teenager. It signifies the end of one chapter and the beginning of another, often filled with a mixture of anticipation, excitement, and even a touch of anxiety. This past weekend Nebraska Christian kicked off the local graduation weekend and High Plains Community soon held their own commencement ceremony. Central City Public Schools held their festivities on Sunday and the graduation marked the first to be held in the Bison Activity Dome.

A King is Crowned: Reeves reflects on the coronation of Charles III and his wife, Camilla

Hello Nebraska, I am sure you are very aware of the events that occurred on the first weekend of May. If, however, you did not turn on the news, King Charles the Third was crowned the King of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealths, on Saturday May 6th, 2023. A historical event that won’t be repeated until Prince William takes the throne.

Graduation 2023

This past weekend was a busy one as the Class of 2023 was honored with commencement ceremonies at Central City Public Schools, Nebraska Christian and High Plains Community. Left to right from top: Students at Nebraska Christian gather before their ceremony for a group photo complete with the traditional cap throw. Last to receive their diplomas were salutatorian Derek Pfeifer and valedictorian Elaina McHargue. Delivering one of the commencement addresses was Brielle Hamer who spoke on the impact of the Class of 2023 and also the impact of her community on the Class of 2023. Kenzie Wruble spoke to her classmates at High Plains and also made a grand exit. Jacob Nokelby spoke to the Class of ‘23 at Nebraska Christian.

Merrick County 4-H Trap Team crushes clay en route to trophies

For the past 18 years the sport of trap shooting has been alive and well in Merrick County. After a brief stent as a Central City High School activity the team shifted to participating as part of the Merrick County 4-H where they remain today. Each spring young shooters work to perfect their craft as they strive for greatness at the annual Cornhusker Trap Shoot held in Doniphan.
