Success at the International DECA Competition

Body
Caleb Rowe, CCHS junior, competed at the State DECA competition in March and there he placed 3rd in the Accounting Applications event. With that placement, he earned a spot to go compete at the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Anaheim, CA. The conference took place from April 26-May 1, 2024. Caleb finished in the Top 20% in the world in Accounting Applications! These are some of the things Caleb Rowe enjoyed and took away from the conference: ICDC was an amazing experience overall. Spending time at Disneyland and Universal was beyond fun and it was amazing getting to experience them both for the first time with brand new friends. Meeting people at ICDC was a highlight. You could barely get down the block without someone asking where you’re from, and it was cool to see people so excited to trade DECA pins or just make new friends. The role plays were another amazing experience. The situations presented in the roleplays are potentially real-world experiences and allowed me to showcase my ability to think on my feet and for me to display my accounting knowledge. Interacting with professionals in various areas was something I cannot overstate the value of, and, not only did it make me more confident in my own abilities, but it also showed me how much more I have to learn in the future. Although it was unfortunate that I didn’t make finals, scoring within the top 20% out of the 181 best high school accountants in the world was definitely something to be proud of, and it gives me plenty of motivation to improve for the future. Next year, I hope to come home with the DECA glass, but until then, there is plenty of work to be done.
