The Bob Devaney Sports Center hosted a ceremony for College of Law graduates May 3; Pinnacle Bank Arena held a ceremony for students earning graduate and professional degrees May 17; and Memorial Stadium hosted a ceremony for undergraduates May 18.

Emily Blomstedt of Central City is among 14 graduating seniors who have earned awards from the University Honors Program at the University of Nebraska- Lincoln. Award winners were selected from among 200-plus Honors students to graduate during the 2023-24 academic year.

Graduation honors are awarded to those students with outstanding academic records in their undergraduate work. Degrees with distinction are awarded as follows: Summa Cum Laude, overall GPA of 3.97 or higher; Magna Cum Laude, overall GPA of 3.94 or higher; and Cum Laude, overall GPA of 3.85 or higher.

High Plains Community School’s 4th and 5th graders in Mrs. Laura Hedrick’s class recently held a Poetry Cafe after finishing up their poetry units. Each week different students poems will be published to honor their hard work!

Central City is buzzing with excitement as the annual Lone Tree Days Parade makes a historic return to its roots this Independence Day. For the first time in years, the parade will march proudly down Highway 30, bringing back cherished memories for many longtime residents. This significant change is a nod to tradition and community spirit, promising a festive celebration like no other.

As Memorial Day approaches, Central City prepares to honor its fallen heroes with the annual service hosted by the American Legion Post 6. This cherished tradition, steeped in history and reverence, will take place on Monday, May 27, at 10:00 AM at the Northeast corner of the Central City cemetery. This years’ service will feature guest speaker Jamie Gustafson, adding a new voice to the solemn proceedings.
