This critical initiative, spearheaded by the Merrick County Development Corporation in partnership with the South-Central Economic Development District (SCEDD), aims to gather essential feedback from community members to shape the future of Central City.

When a storm system that included twin tornadoes devastated the communities of Wisner and Pilger in Stanton County, claiming the life of 5-year-old Calista Dixon, it didn’t take long for folks across Nebraska to respond. A crew of 30 volunteers from Merrick County took the road to Pilger, the community hardest hit by the tornadoes.

With the 4th of July fast approaching, many firework vendors are getting ready to open up and get their products out on the shelves, and people in the community will start lining up at their preferred vendors to get all the fireworks they can to celebrate the coming Independence Day. One particular vendor that is opening up for the first time this year is Pow Pow Fireworks, setting up shop on the lot by Taco Johns.

Central City High School shines at Nebraska High School Theater Academy Showcase

Last Thursday, the students of Central City High School lit up the Orpheum Theater stage with a dazzling performance of two scenes from “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” leaving the audience spellbound and cheering for more. As part of the Nebraska High School Theater Academy Showcase, this event brought together the crème de la crème of high school musical theater from across the state, and Central City proved they could hold their own against the best of the best.

Albert Acres Cattle Company visited by Kenyan Delegation

A Kenyan delegation came to Merrick County on Friday, May 31, during their mission trip through Nebraska to visit Albert Acres Cattle Company, wanting to learn more about Texas Longhorns. Keir Albert, the Owner and Operator, shared with them his vast knowledge of the breed while giving them an up-close look. The visit was part of a Trade Mission that was in cooperation between the state of Nebraska and the Republic of Kenya.
