That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

2024 Nebraska acreage

Nebraska producers planted 10.1 million acres of corn for all purposes, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This is up 2% from last year. Of the total acres, 96% were planted with biotechnology varieties, up 2 percentage points from 2023. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 9.70 million acres, up 2% from a year ago.

Nebraska grain stocks

Nebraska corn stocks in all positions on June 1, 2024 totaled 433 million bushels, up 5% from 2023, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Of the total, 250 million bushels are stored on farms, up 9% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 183 million bushels, are up 1% from last year.

Frontier Soap Shack opens its doors in Clarks

In Clarks, Frontier Soap Shack is now open on main street, as they opened their door to the public for the first time on June 27. Frontier Soap Shack has been started by Sue Ward as a way for local crafters and vendors to have a space to sell their products. Located between the Fire Department and the VFW, the Frontier Soap Shack is made to be a community store selling only local products.

Quilt of Valor given to local hero

On June 23, 2024, a heartwarming ceremony took place at the Polk Senior Center to honor a local hero, Richard G. Owens, with a Quilt of Valor. This recognition celebrates his dedicated service in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966. The Grand Island Quilt of Valor Sew-ciety bestowed this honor upon Owens, marking a significant moment in his life and the community.
