Central City’s softball team is making headlines this week after maintaining a remarkable 21-2 record on the season, showcasing exceptional defense that hasn’t let a run slip through since last Thursday’s away game against Aurora. The team triumphed 12-3 in the face-off.

It was another exciting week of sports action here in our local coverage area and this week we bring you photos to tell the story. Friday night the Bison football squad captured their first win of the season as they defeated Holdrege 21-14 on the road. It was an exciting game until the end and this time the Bison held on for the victory. The games final drive was enough as, Left to right from top left, Corbin Kyes rumbled for a first down. The game also seen solid play from the defense and players like Jacob Kucera. New faces also emerged like Bladen Kohl who hauled in a touchdown pass for his biggest play of the season to date. On the golf course it was a successful week for Cyah White Bull, a freshman who has already secured multiple medals this season. Cyah can crush the ball, just like that Bison defense did at Holdrege. The Bison girls golf season is in full swing as the team looks for success from leaders like Akeyli Bush and Katelynn Blomstedt. Bison softball battled to mixed results this week as they defeated a tough Twin River team in a dog fight, but watched a lead slip away Tuesday night against Fillmore Central/Exeter-Milligan/Friend. Bison sophomore Payton Burbach can hurt you multiple way and baserunning is one of them as she pulled off one of the prettiest slides known to man on this close play. Jerzie Schindler recorded the final out on her lucky number 13th strikeout Monday night as she continues to impress. Speaking of things that impressed this past week, one of those was most certainly the Bison volleyball team. After a dreaded five-game skid, the Lady Bison have fired back to even their record at 5-5 with a four-game winning streak. The team picked up wins Tuesday over Doniphan-Trumbull and Gibbon. Against D-T Sydni Homolka played lights out as the team battled in a thriller. Senior Addie Buhlke was also impressive and here celebrates with Homolka and Makayla Enevoldsen. The Storm also notched a win with solid play from Gavin Morris and many other Storm studs.

In the annual showdown of local teams it was again the Nebraska Christian Eagles who emerged victorious in their battle with High Plains, but both schools came together to have a prayer after the contest. The game featured many great players like NC’s Taytum Perdew who was electric. Rylee Ackerson and Addison Lindburg also played well for the Storm while Ali Bruning showed her leadership and ability on the court. Courtney Carlstrom was also impressive for the Storm and will be a force the entire season for any team to contain.

In an impressive display of skill and determination, the Central City softball team has stamped its authority on Class C softball, bringing its season record to an enviable 13-1. The team’s performance over the past week has been nothing short of extraordinary, making them one of the teams to beat in the upcoming championship run.

The Nebraska Christian volleyball team is setting the standard high this season with an exceptional run so far, boasting a 7-1 record. They have been blazing through opponents, with their only loss coming against Class C’s Adams Central in a tough-fought 2-0 defeat.

In one of the most electrifying games of the season, Central City Bison suffered a gut-wrenching 26-22 loss to the Cozad Haymakers last Friday. The game was a roller coaster from start to finish, with the final 90 seconds experiencing a jaw-dropping three lead changes.
