On a sunlit day with the warmth adding an extra challenge, the state’s best high school runners gathered at Kearney Country Club to showcase their talent at the NSAA State Cross Country meet. The Nebraska Christian girls, a powerhouse in their own right, finished sixth overall in Class D.

Central City’s volleyball team showcased their determination last week, rebounding from an opening round defeat to seize a notable fifth-place finish in the Lou-Platte Conference Tournament. Battling not only one of their fiercest rivals but also the elements, Central City High’s football team showcased their resilience on Friday night, overcoming early injuries to seal a triumphant 44-7 win over their ardent rivals, the St. Paul Wildcats.

At the NSAA C-4 and D-4 District Championships, Central City and Nebraska Christian athletes charged ahead, securing their places for the NSAA State Cross Country Championships to be held this Friday.

The Central City High School softball team celebrated an exhilarating victory against the Malcolm Clippers last Saturday, winning the C-2 District Championship. The win has fast-tracked the Bison to the NSAA State Softball Tournament scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in Hastings. Central City took on Malcolm in a best-of-three series, and after a slow offensive start, they exploded offensively to help notch their 31st victory of the season and their biggest to date.

A chilly Friday night set the stage for a fierce battle between the Central City Bison and the Pierce Bluejays. Despite a valiant effort from the Bison, a late-game fumble turned the tides and allowed Pierce to secure a 48-35 victory.
