Central City comeback effort comes up short at state tournament .After making history by qualifying for the NSAA State Girls Basketball Tournament for the first time in school history, the Central City Bison ran into a familiar opponent in the tournament’s opening round—top-rated, top-seeded Milford. After a back-and-forth first half, the Eagles made a big third quarter rally and held off a fourth quarter surge from the Bison to hold on for a 37-34 victory, ending the Green and Gold’s postseason run at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln.

Top-rated Milford holds off Central City surge in subdistrict final District final appearances were inevitable for both teams in last Friday’s C1-8 Subdistrict Final between Central City and top-rated Milford. While battling for seeding and bragging rights, the Bison came just short of a comefrom- behind upset when, despite a career performance from Sydni Homolka, they fell 44-43.

FREEMAN EDGES PAST EAGLES

Nebraska Christian’s Sheridan Falk put together a heroic performance in last Tuesday’s C2-2 Subdistrict Tournament game with Freeman. Coming into the meeting, the senior led the state in scoring with 23.6 points per game and, in what would ultimately be her final game sporting an Eagles’ uniform, saved her best performance for last.
