Here we are on the other side of another big week in our community. #commUNITY was on my mind a lot this past week as I officially said goodbye to the Central City Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. My term is over and on Wednesday night I opened the meeting but soon made my exit after the new executive board was voted upon.

Everyday is the same but it is also different. That is what comes to mind when describing my teaching career so far. My name is Haden Held and I am one of the 4th graders teachers at Central City Elementary School. I am from Leigh Nebraska and I graduated from Leigh High School in 2018. From there I went to Wayne State College and received my bachelors degree in Elementary Education in the spring of 2022. It is my first year of teaching and I am learning something new everyday. The support I have and people I work with everyday have made this 1st year really enjoyable for me.

Welcome to February. A month that will be full of excitement and with any luck some mild weather as all of our readers with cattle are certainly needing it after last February. It is a month that kicks off the end of the winter sports season here in Nebraska and buckle up because the race to the finish line is upon us.

In advance of this past weekend’s Nebraska Walk for Life rally in Lincoln, a group of about two dozen pro-abortion activists met at the capital to protest the U.S. Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade. They had the backing of President Biden who charged last week that “MAGA Republican officials are waging a war on women’s right to make their own health care decisions.”

Week two has gained more speed than the first week of the Nebraska Legislature. On Monday we finished debating the report that assigns every senator to a standing committee. I am blessed to have been assigned to the Appropriations Committee which tackles the state’s budget. It is the only committee that meets five days a week.
