In Nebraska, August marks the close of summer and the beginning of a busy new season. It means the return of Husker football and volleyball games, final preparations ahead of harvest, and the rush of backto- school shopping.

Now that the August district work period is officially underway, I am excited to spend the coming weeks on the road, listening to Nebraskans across the Third District and seeing firsthand the opportunities and challenges facing our communities.

It all started with a letter opener. You know, one of those tchotchkes that businesses hand out so that every time you open a bill or a letter from your grandma, you see their logo in hopes that you remember them the next time you need something.

As Congress begins its August work period, I’m looking forward to being back home meeting with Nebraskans across the Third District. As I prepare for my travels, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my work for you over the past several months.

It is not hard to get a great photo of someone in public taking a bite of food. What is hard is getting a great photo at that moment— the type of photo that would definitely embarrass the subject if printed—without being noticed.
