When I interviewed for the elementary/middle school vocal music position here in Central City in 1988, I was told that due to a generous donation, the school would be building a theater “sometime.” Well, that “sometime” finally became a reality in 2011 in my final year of teaching full-time! However, even in my “retirement” I have been able to benefit from this wonderful Performing Arts Center/Edwin and Bernice Lock Theatre through my continued work as an accompanist at school and my work with Merrick Arts Council. We are so blessed to have this PAC thanks to the Lock’s donation, the initial fundraising by community members, and then a vote by the public to pass a bond issue.

You may be wondering why the sports section has been so thin lately and the short answer is that this has been a unique start to the spring sports season. Weather has slowed the start significantly, but also on Tuesday the Sandy Creek Invitational was postponed for a reason I have never seen before.

Letter to the Editor: Junior Class President is thankful for prom helpers

Body
Editor: On behalf of the Junior Class at Central City High School, we wanted to thank the following individuals and businesses in our community for making prom, one of the defining moments in our lives, such a significant and incendiary memory. First and foremost, we’d like to thank Courtney Root of Magnolias Boutique for advising and providing insight into coordinating and decorating the 4H building; her guidance and suggestions were more than we could have ever envisioned.

As I look back and reflect on the end of my fifth year in education, nothing can compare to the first year I have encountered here at Central City, as a secondgrade teacher. This last year has been one of my best years as an educator, and it is thanks to all the amazing people within our community.
