After more than three decades as a full-time doctor in Central City Dr. Steve Mahnke will transition into a part-time role in the local medical scene, dialing back his work schedule to two days a week.
Saturday, July 5 brought a momentous morning event to the Central City Historical Museum. Even with another Independence Day in the rearview mirror, talks of heroism and patriotism continued at the new museum building, with Darlene Darbro, a member of the Lone Tree Quilt Guild, presenting 3 exceptional veterans their very own Quilts of Valor. Recipients included Bob Cline, Sandy Lindgreen, and James M. Kirlin.
The seventh day of the seventh month of 2025 saw the Merrick County GOP gathering together once more for another monthly meeting. This gathering saw Loren Lippincott, a Nebraska senator of Nebraska’s thirty-fourth district, informing and updating the assembly of numerous bills that have been passed as a result from the recently completed legislative session.
Since last fall, the buildings located at 319 and 321 G Street in Central City have been deemed unsafe for occupancy. The sidewalk in front of the buildings has been blocked off with barriers, and “Keep Out” signs have been posted on the doors.
Nebraska State Senator Loren Lippincott of District 34 will be the featured speaker at the upcoming Merrick County GOP meeting, scheduled for Monday, July 7, at ISI Solar in Central City. The event will begin with coffee and cookies at 6:30 p.m., followed by the meeting at 7:00 p.m.

Lone Tree, the name that once stood as a landmark on a map and in the hearts of settlers, was officially replaced by Central City. And while it may have taken an act of law to make it so, what happened in early 1875 was about far more than a name. It was about identity, pride, direction, and dreams.
Festivities for Independence Day will once again fill the streets of Central City as the annual Fourth of July Parade returns on Friday, July 4, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The patriotic celebration will take place along Highway 30, drawing crowds of spectators eager to celebrate the holiday with floats, marching bands, and community pride.

The family of Neal Sandell is hosting an open house to celebrate his 90th birthday. The open house will be held on Sunday, July 13th, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Polk Senior Center located on 230 N Main Street in Polk.
