Central City graduate and barber returns home to keep local barber shop open

In December of 2022, Marlo Broekemeier announced that his run of success at Head-Quarters would be coming to an end after fifty years leaving a big void in our community. The decision was a tough one for Marlo who still held out hope that his years of hard work could help pave the way for another young barber to begin their career here in Central City.

20 Years Ago The Central City Council Monday voted in favor of opening each regularly scheduled meeting with a prayer. After some quiet discussion about whether prayer belongs at council meetings, what type of prayer should be said, and who should lead the prayer, a motion was made by councilman Dean Eckstrom.

Water for Agriculture and Human Health to be the Focus AG UPDATE 2023 Planned for February 14th in Central City

From the winter weather review and spring outlook to managing pasture/range during and after drought, Nebraska water quality’s impact on human health, and more, Ag Update 2023 offers the latest information to help Nebraskans. The event will be held Tuesday, February 14th at the Merrick County Youth and Agriculture Education Center, 1784 Fairgrounds Road, Central City starting with breakfast refreshments provided by Archer Credit Union and exhibits opening at 9:00 am. The event has a great lineup of speakers and exhibits, including “Nebraska Water, Connecting all Nebraskans” with Crystal Powers, “How Water and Substances Move in Soils and the Vadose Zone” with Aaron Daigh, and “Home Reverse Osmosis Cost Share Program” with Steve Melvin. Lunch will be provided and sponsored by Cornerstone Bank. The day will wrap-up about 3:15 with some nice door prizes. The educational program, sponsored by the University of Nebraska Extension will include Corn Update, USDA Update, Nebraska Weather/Climate: Winter Review and Spring Outlook, Managing Pasture/ Range During and After Drought, Producing Irrigated Corn with Limited Well Capacity, Nebraska Water, Connecting all Nebraskans, Trends and Connections in Water Quality for the Platte Valley, The Basics and Implications of How Water and Substances Move in Soils and the Vadose Zone, Red Pivot Study and How Water Moves in Our Aquifer in the Central Nebraska Area, Nebraska Water Quality’s Impact on Human Health, and Home Reverse Osmosis Cost Share Program.

Encouraging results of new sensor-based fertigation will be presented at Central Platte NRD’s annual Water Programs Update to be held Thursday, February 16, 2023, at the Merrick County Fairgrounds in Central City. During the 2022 growing season, sensor-based fertigation (SBF) studies were conducted by UNL on two farms in the CPNRD with a focus on improving nitrogen (N) management.
