Each year the Merrick Medical Center Foundation offers scholarships to area High School Seniors who are pursuing a career in healthcare. The funds for the Health Professions Scholarships are made possible by the sports physical program in area schools.

On May 29, Memorial Day, people gathered at the Northeast corner of the Central City cemetery for a special ceremony put on by the local American legion.

Every town has its heroes, but few are as versatile, tenacious, or well-traveled as Central City’s very own Master Sergeant Robert Fothergill. After 22 years of service, this hometown hero officially retired from the United States Marine Corps on April 30th, 2023, leaving behind an indelible legacy.
