Monday night the normal light attendance for a Central City Public Schools Board of Education meeting was replaced by nearly 100 people showing up to show their support for the school’s vocal music program and instructor after social media post circulated with multiple accusations made towards the school and program.

With so much conversation surrounding Central City Public Schools for their accomplishments in building a successful environment for learning, some may think that it would be easy to lose sight of the students who are making extraordinary impacts on the world around us. That is certainly not the case as the students and educators in the Central City High School science department once again are in the spotlight.

Following days of speculation, last Thursday at City Hall, Mark Dreher (left) was sworn in as the Central City Police Department Police Chief while Mayor Tim Bolling (right) offered his congratulations. Chief Dreher is now on the job as he replaces former Chief Mark Hogue.

Jane Berggren serves as first female President of Nebraska Elks Association

Central City local, Jane Berggren was elected the State President of the Nebraska Elks Association and is now serving in that capacity. Serving with great pride, her term as State President makes her the first female to be elected to the position in the Elks Lodges history.

City Council approves staff changes, Mark Dreher sworn in as Police Chief

Update: Mark Dreher was officially sworn in as Police Chief today (Thursday). Mayor Bolling said, “Chief Dreher has a ton of experience who can operate at 100% from day one. He’s a strong leader and we’re grateful to have him aboard.” It has been a busy stretch for the City Council of Central City with some big decisions to be made. In a special meeting last Wednesday, it was approved to authorize Mayor Tim Bolling to enter into a severance agreement with Central City Police Chief Mark Hogue to avoid further due process expenses and to avoid potential litigation on terms to be negotiated.
