Dr. Ryan Santin joins MMC

Dr. Ryan Santin is excited to join the team at Merrick Medical Center in a new endeavor as a rural Psychiatrist. Formerly, Dr. Santin was an inpatient psychiatrist at Bryan West in Lincoln, the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls and a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of South Dakota Medical School. Dr. Santin grew up in Palmer and is proud to return to his roots in central Nebraska.

Central City Scale continues family legacy while celebrating 50 years of business

Central City Scale is now celebrating their 50th Anniversary, a significant milestone for the family ran business. Having done business from within Central City for all these years, they have grown into a business that manufactures and sells scales all around the world. First started by Ron Hawthorne, it has remained a family business through the years, and has become a major business in the community and beyond.

County Board sets 2023/24 budget

Each year preparing the next budget year can be the most stressful time of the year, but that was amplified this year for the Merrick County Supervisors and officials as they navigated discrepancies and budget cuts down to the final hour. On Tuesday morning, with great relief, that was all put to an end, for the most part. Public hearings were held in regards to both the budget and the task asking with no questions coming from the public. It was stated that the budget would need to be republished after small adjustments were made, but those adjustments would not affect the tax request.

Harvest 2023 hits full swing

After a hot and dry summer, with Autumn closing in, Nebraska farmers all over the state are starting to go full force into harvest. For Merrick County, the planting and growing season has been very dry, with a lot of irrigation needed. Despite much of the moisture that we have gotten, there is still a lot of dry ground in Merrick County. Jacob Esch, who farms a number of fields in Merrick County, said, “Storms this year have been really spotty and they came from all directions. The rain always helps, but we are definitely behind.”
