Merrick County Sheriff’s Office responds to multiple vehicular incidents

The Merrick County Sheriff’s Department has had its hands full this past week, responding to a series of vehicular incidents that have highlighted concerns over road and railroad safety. On Monday, October 16, 2023, a septic truck careened out of its lane on 2nd Road, also known as Worms Road.

Central City Housing Authority holds open house

The Central City Housing Authority is nearly complete with a new housing project. Avenue 25 Villas. Once it is completed, it will be able to house 16 households over the age of 55, giving more housing opportunities for Central City. The project was made a reality when the Housing Agency received the opportunity to purchase the land adjacent to two of their existing housing projects from the Pavlik Family in 2021.

CCVFD presented two local donations Library

The Central City Volunteer Fire Department held a meeting at Merrick Medical Center on Wednesday, October 11, and the meeting was for a special occasion for the department. The Central City FFA made a special appearance to present the fire department a special grain rescue tube. The Fire department was also awarded a donation from Bryan Health for the work they did when a sprinkler malfunctioned at the hospital.

EPIC or Inferior?

Monday night the Merrick County GOP hosted a night of spirited debate and information in regards to the proposed EPIC tax option that many are hoping to see replace the existing Nebraska tax system. The room was met with varying opinions of the plan while Brenda Bickford of Lincoln and Sen. Loren Lippincott of Central City spoke in regards to both the failures of the current tax system and the benefits of the EPIC tax option. The topic also came up during gubernatorial debates.
