Wayne State College included 1,300 students on the dean’s list for exemplary academic achievement during the Fall 2025 semester. Students listed on the dean’s list are full-time undergraduate students who have achieved a GPA of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale for the semester. An asterisk (*) denotes a 4.0 GPA for the term.

Senator Loren Lippincott • District 34 Frustrations ran high recently in our nine-member Legislative Appropriations Committee as we struggled to find ways to cut the state budget. The volume of voices began to rise until one of our members spoke up with the rhetorical question we all ought to be asking as we consider the spending of tax dollars: “What is the purpose of government?” Over ninety percent of the bills we pass each year have a fiscal impact (in other words, they require the use of taxpayer dollars), which should cause everyone to ask, “How are you using the money you take out of my pocketbook and who or what is getting it?” Let’s look at the federal government’s handling of your money in past decades and see the success (or lack thereof) of its stewardship of your resources.

10 YEARS AGO It might not have been the way they’d have liked to do it, but the High Plains Community Storm will be back in Lincoln this weekend to defend its Class D-1 state championship. NC fifth-grader Marlie Mundt, who made a Quilt of Valor along with her great aunt Anita Wochner, was included in a documentary “Quilts of Valor II” which aired on Nebraska’s NET TV in March.

The nonincumbent filing deadline for the May 12th statewide primary election was March 2nd at 5:00 p.m. According to filing information current as of Tuesday morning, primary races will take place for District 7 and District 5 on the Merrick County Board of Supervisors, for the sheriff, for the district court, and for the treasurer’s seat.

After having previously tabled the agenda item, last week, the Merrick County Joint Planning Commission voted to approve recommending a conditional use permit for a data center in Merrick County. Last Thursday, the commissioners voted 6-2 to recommend the Merrick County Board of Supervisors approve the conditional use permit.
