NDOT: Keep signs out of right-of-way

The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is reminding the public that it is unlawful to place political campaign signs, or any signs, on state highway and interstate rightof- way. This includes intersections, medians, entrance and exit ramps, sidewalks and the ditches and lands that make up the rightof- way bordering the length of each roadway.

Tips for cattle operations following fires

Recent wildfires in Nebraska have left many cattle operations facing urgent management decisions. Once humans are safe, producers should focus on three priorities: stabilizing livestock through health checks and access to clean water and feed, documenting losses and engaging with insurers and/or assistance programs, and developing a grazing recovery plan that protects rangeland health going into the next grazing season.

10 YEARS AGO Thanks to the recent spring-like weather, work proceeds apace at the 4-H complex at the Merrick County Fairgrounds. The Platte PEER Group, an agency started in 2003 for the management of Bader Park near Chapman and other Platte River environs, took ownership of a major portion of the Dark Island Trail on March 2nd from the Nebraska Trails Foundation.
Historical museum holds soft opening

Grand opening planned for sometime next month Early this month, the Merrick County Historical Museum (MCHM) officially opened for regular hours at its new location on 28th Street in Central City. The March 3rd “soft opening” sees the museum operating from 9:00 a.m.

It was a week full of fun, laughter, and plenty of books at the elementary school as students and staff celebrated Read Across America Week. The week is always a special time dedicated to encouraging students to read for fun—and this year’s activities definitely delivered.
ELKS LODGE NO. 604
Body
THE GRAND ISLAND ELKS NO. 604 presented the Central City junior wrestling program with a check for $400.00. This is to help purchase singlets for the girl wrestlers. The Elks also donate dictionaries to third graders in area schools. Additionally, members donate tennis shoes and socks to area districts. All of the organization’s giving comes from grants that members apply for through the Elks National Foundation.
