Bison battle to Lou-Platte Conference runner-up

Heading into the Lou-Platte Conference Basketball Tournament it looked like the Central City Bison and the Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals were on a collision course for what would be a highly anticipated rematch between the two squads that have not beaten by any other teams this season. In their one head-to-head matchup this season it was the Cardinals who were victorious and the Bison were looking to avenge that early season loss.

Local wrestlers prepare for districts

Here we are, after months of early mornings and late nights, the 2022-23 wresting season will soon come to an end for the majority of wrestlers across the state. Only the top four wrestlers in each weight class this Friday and Saturday will see their season continue as we enter into district competitions. For most it will be heartbreak, but for some it will be a moment of pure joy as they punch their ticket to the NSAA State Wrestling Championships.

February has a way of bringing with it exciting local sports action and the Central City High School basketball team stands ready to provide some excitement early in the month.

Bison wrestling teams look to finish strong down stretch

Sometimes in the Nebraska winter, Mother Nature stops you dead in your tracks and sends you looking for an alternative course of action. That is the scenario that the Central City High School wrestling team found themselves in as the Ainsworth wrestling meet was canceled due to weather. The team quickly shifted their focus to the Doniphan-Trumbull Invitational on Saturday before finishing the home dual portion of their schedule on Tuesday night.

Eagles hoops back on track with sweep

Last Thursday in a battle of the Eagles it was heartbreak for the Eagles of Nebraska Christian as both the boys and girls squads felt the agony of defeat in dramatic fashion. Shades of the Parkview Christian game as the Lady Eagles of Nebraska Christian watched Wood River score the final points of the game in a 36-35 defeat. The boys too fell to Wood River in a tight contest, but both teams would show that they still have plenty of fight left as the season heads down the stretch.
