Bison places twenty-fourth at Class C meet Some of the state’s best golfers teed off at Indianhead Golf Club in Grand Island last week, and among that field of talented linksmen was Central City’s Karter Negus. The recent Central City High School graduate fought his way up the leaderboard at the NSAA Class C State Golf Championships.

The summer began on a high note for the Central City Seniors as the Green and Gold used eight hits and a pair of standout pitching performances to blow past Ord on opening night, 9-1. Following two scoreless innings, Central City was the first team to get on the board when Martin Gonzales crossed home plate following an error.

Central City’s Juniors showed some midseason patience in last Wednesday’s season opener with Ord, drawing twelve walks on the way to a lopsided 12-3 victory. A single from Quentin Herman and a triple by Preston Burbach were the catalyst for three runs in the opening frame.

Central City’s Wyatt Dent wins two Class B gold medals With one attempt left in his varsity career, Central City’s Wyatt Dent made history. At the NSAA Class B State Track and Field Championships at Burke Stadium in Omaha last Thursday, the senior jumper and sprinter set a new state meet record and defended his Class B 100-meter dash title in comeback fashion, helping lead the Green and Gold to a fourteenth- place finish in the overall team standings.

Nebraska Christian’s Jacob Swanson ran a dozen laps around the track at Omaha Burke last weekend, and the recent graduate took home a pair of bronze medals for his efforts. Last week, Swanson led the Eagles’ delegation to Omaha.

After five complete innings, top-seeded Central City/Centura found themselves in a five-run hole against Mount Michael. The Kernels managed to piece together a late rally and send the game to extra innings, but ultimately, the Knights came up with a walk-off run in the ninth inning to hand Central City/ Centura a 6-5 loss.

Spurling earns a pair of medals during Class D portion of meet High Plains Community’s Brodey Spurling added to his cache of hardware from the NSAA Class D State Track and Field Championships last week. Spurling, who qualified for state in three events—triple jump, long jump, and the 100-meter dash—earned two medals while in Omaha.

It took two days to decide a winner in Tuesday’s quarterfinal game of the NSAA State Baseball Championships between Central City/ Centura and Guardian Angels Central Catholic- West Point Beemer (GACC-WPM), but when the dust settled, the Kernels saw their season come to an end with a 2-0 loss.
