Things went down to the wire in Central City’s third round game with Yutan/ Mead, but with a state championship appearance in sight, the Bison used a late rally to come away with a 6-4 victory. Things didn’t look great early on for the Green and Gold.

Central City had a mountain to climb if they wanted to punch their ticket to the NSAA Class C State Softball Championship game. Waiting for the Bison in the semifinal round was the defending state champions, Bishop Nuemann.

Bison sweep Twin River in district final, qualify for state tournament For the fourth time in six years, the Central City Bison punched their tickets to the NSAA State Softball Championships. Last Friday on their home diamond, the Green and Gold swept Twin River in a bestof- three series to secure their spot in the eight-team field in Hastings.

It was a clean sweep for Nebraska Christian at last Thursday’s Goldenrod Conference Cross Country Meet in Fullerton. In both the boys’ and girls’ races, the Eagles bested the field for the overall team title while Grace Nokelby and Jacob Swanson took home top honors individually.

For the first time this season, the Central City Bison faced a deficit going into the halftime intermission. Last Friday on their home field, the Green and Gold faced adversity early on, but used some impressive defense and a season-best performance from Wyatt Dent to claw their way back to a 43-21 victory over Milford.

It was an up and down slate of matches for the Central City volleyball team over the course of the last week. On Tuesday, the Bison kicked things off with a 3-0 sweep of Arcadia/ Loup City, but would suffer their twelfth loss of the year two nights later when Ord topped the Green and Gold in a five-set thriller in the first round of the LouPlatte Conference Tournament.

All four members of the Central City girls’ cross country team brought home hardware at last Tuesday’s LouPlatte Conference Meet in Gibbon, resulting in the Green and Gold’s second consecutive LPC title.
