Five of the top twenty runners at last Thursday’s Roger Nielsen Cross Country Invitational in Central City were sporting Nebraska Christian uniforms, helping push the Eagles to a second place finish on the course at Valley View Country Club.

The Central City Volleyball team is starting to find their rhythm. During a busy slate of matches last week, the Lady Bison posted a 5-1 record, bringing their overall season mark to 8-6.

After suffering losses in two of their last three contests, the Bison were hungry for a victory. On Tuesday against NEN (Pender), the Bison would get that victory in impressive fashion.

Runners from outside of Central City had to settle for seventh place or lower at last Tuesday’s Centura Cross Country Invitational.

Nebraska Christian and High Plains both came into last Thursday’s meeting with one blemish on their records. Somebody was going to leave with their second loss of the season and, due to standout performances from Nebraska Christian’s Sheridan Falk and Cara Sidak, that loss went to the Storm.

It has been an up and down first three weeks of the season for the Central City Volleyball team. The Bison began the year by winning three of their first four matches, but have recently faced their share of struggles as they came out of last week on the bitter end of a four-game losing streak.

The fast-paced aerial attack offense of Riverside was too much for High Plains last Friday as the Chargers handed the Storm their second loss of the season, 46-20. Despite sixty-six combined points being scored, the first quarter of the game was a defensive battle.

One year ago, it took two overtime periods to decide a winner between Central City and Cozad. While the Haymakers escaped with that win in 2024, the Bison got revenge last Friday when they coasted to a dominant 48-7 victory on Cozad’s home field.
