Bison shine at home invite, Ryan and Dent lead the way

A steamy spring afternoon gave way to sharp winds and colder air last Thursday as athletes from across the region converged on Preferred Popcorn Field for the annual Central City Track and Field Invitational. While the weather started out picture-perfect, a stiff north wind and looming storm clouds added a dramatic backdrop to a day packed with personal records and highlight-reel performances.

Kernels notch historic win en route to 10-0 start

On Thursday, April 10, the baseball program quietly reached a milestone that once felt light-years away. In a 9-1 win over Fort Calhoun, the Kernels collected the 100th win in program history—an impressive benchmark for a team still in its early chapters. But the celebration didn’t last long. There were more games to play, more teams to beat, and a roster hungry for something far more meaningful than round numbers.

Since 1972, the Central City Track & Field Invitational has been a staple of Nebraska’s spring sports scene—part meet, part proving ground, and always packed with talent. This Thursday, the annual event returns home to Preferred Popcorn Field at Bison Stadium, where the host Bison will welcome an electric slate of teams from across the state in what promises to be a thrilling afternoon of competition.

Eagles track soars at Wood River Invitational

On a typically windy day, Nebraska Christian took part in the Wood River Invitational track meet, April 8, managing a near sweep as the girls won and the boys finished a close 2nd in the 10 team meet. Leading the way for the Lady Eagles, winners of nine events, were Sheridan Falk who swept the hurdles and won the long jump by soaring 17 ft. 10.5 inches. Izzi Brumbaugh chipped in with a victory in the 800 while also helping lead the 4 X 400 and 4 X 800 to impressive wins. Joining Brumbaugh on the 4 X 400 were Cara Sidak, Gracie Hackel and Ava Brumbaugh. In the 4 X 800 relay, Brumbaugh teamed with Elise Rathjen, Emma Rathjen and Gracie Hackel, touring the course in an impressive 10:19.7 which ranks them 2nd in the state. Sidak also won the 400, as she continues to come back from a season ending injury suffered last year. Freshman Grace Nokelby led a one, two three Eagle finish in the 3200. Nokelby was chased to the finish by Ava Brumbaugh and Addie Edson. Nokelby later added a 3rd place finish in the 1600, following teammate Emma Ratjen, who finished 2nd. Edsen earned a 4th in that race. Tatum Perdew added the to Eagle gold rush by claiming a win in the triple jump. Alexis Perry had a great day in the shotput as she improved her personal best by nearly two feet as she launched a 37 ft. 4.25” heave and grabbed 2nd.

Bison golf opens season with record-tying performance

It was cold, it was windy, and at times it was downright unkind— but for the Central City boys’ golf team, it was also the beginning of something. Something promising, something scrappy, something filled with awkward swings and surprising birdies. The 2025 campaign is underway, and the Bison are already making noise on the fairways and greens.
