Central City High School students hard at work ahead of annual musical performance

Each year the students at Central City High School spend much of their March preparing to step into the spotlight at the Performing Arts Center. This year is no different as students and volunteers have been working tirelessly to make sure that this year is considered to be another successful performance.

Three-year-old Bailey Manhart enjoys the 60-plus degree weather Tuesday by trying out the slide at Lone Tree Park in southern Central City. More warm temperatures should allow plenty of sliding the rest of the week.

Long Term discussion continues at County Board meeting Tuesday morning

Tuesday morning the Merrick County Board of Supervisors met for their regularly scheduled meeting with plenty of items to discuss. The year is moving fast and 2023 budget preparation was a topic of conversation along with the big conversation of Litzenberg Long Term Care and potential renovation projects or a new facility.

Legislative Update

Over the last two weeks we have discussed the origins of public education in America and where we are now. This week, as we consider ways to reform our education system, I will cover the legislation now before us providing for school choice. Among the 50 states in the union, this is something that only Nebraska and North Dakota do not have. All other states do have some form of school choice. Legislative Bill 753 (LB753) is a path to making education more affordable, creating a better product for our kids and giving parents a choice for their children’s education.
