Annual Merrick County Fair kicks off with fun and even a special guest

In the midst of Nebraska’s sprawling cornfields, the Merrick County Fair is an annual spectacle, painting a vibrant tableau of rural American life. This year’s fair, running from July 29th to August 2nd, has emerged as a showcase of community spirit, agricultural excellence, and timeless enjoyment.

Young Eagles gives local youth the opportunity to see home from above

On Saturday, July 29, the EAA or Experimental Aircraft Association, had their special Young Eagles rally out at the Central City Municipal Airport. Kids ages 8 to 17 were able to come out and learn all about the aviation industry and planes. And, they all got a turn for a free ride in an airplane with Local Pilots Don Imhoff and Keal Bockelman.

Post #6 Hits a Homerun

As the host of the B5 Area Legion Baseball Tournament, Central City American Legion Post #6 knocked it out of the park. The tournament was a success, but also highlighted multiple veterans (LtoR from top left) including the late Mike Reeves who was honored on Sunday evening with members of his family in attendance. The Color Guard was a great touch for the championship game and most games began with a ceremonial first pitch. Saturday it was Paul Burbach and on Monday it was Bill Bolte.

Seth Hower defies age, assumes Senior Pastor role at 21, while pursuing Master’s Degree in Divinity

When Seth Hower stood in the rain, on stage, at his Nebraska Christian outdoor graduation, clutching a roll of toilet paper, little did he know that he would become a senior pastor at the tender age of 21. Despite the demanding tasks that come with such a pivotal role, Hower, a 2020 Nebraska Christian graduate, is eager to take up the challenge while concurrently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Divinity.

10 Years Ago The Central City Rural Fire District Board has approved the construction of a new fire station to be located on the former Hilder Implement property, west of Herk’s Welding. The Central City Pony League baseball team recently won the championship in the Loup Platte League Tournament and team members included: Tucker Schneiderheinz, Colton Drage, Cole McReynolds, Luke Peterson, Ethan Deboer, Colt Bonser, Caleb Fueldberth, Dale Jones, Andrew Schuller, Lane Johnson, Will Wagner and Ethan Nelson.

UNITED STATES JULY 1 CATTLE INVENTORY DOWN 3% All cattle and calves in the United States as of July 1, 2023 totaled 95.9 million head according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. All cows and heifers that had calved totaled 38.8 million head. Beef cows totaled 29.4 million head. Milk cows totaled 9.40 million head. All heifers 500 pounds and over totaled 15.0 million head. Steers weighing 500 pounds and over totaled 13.9 million head. Bulls weighing 500 pounds and over totaled 1.90 million head. Calves under 500 pounds totaled 26.3 million head. Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States for all feedlots totaled 13.1 million head.
