School and community collaboration grows successful greenhouse program

Students and faculty at Central City High School, along with Central City FFA, in Central City, Nebraska, have spent the past few years building their greenhouse program to the point where they’re now able to provide their cafeteria with fresh vegetables throughout the school year. Their hard work has earned them the Center for Rural Affairs’ second annual Greenhouse to Cafeteria Award.

USDA Investing in Lower Energy Costs for Rural Business Owners and Agricultural Producers

United States Department of Agriculture Rural Development Nebraska State Director Kate Bolz announced today that USDA is making $21 million in technical assistance grants available through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) to help agricultural producers and rural small businesses access federal funds for renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements.

Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma sets Meeting in Central City

Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met on June 15. 2023, at Ashton and Farwell, Ne, hosted by Group 2’s Charlotte Rasmussen, Theda VanHorn, and Ann Bjorklund. Eleven members met at the Polish Heritage Museum in Ashton and were greeted by Phyllis Piechota, advocate of the museum and community host for the visit. She invited Kappas to have kolache and coffee. This was followed by free time to peruse many museum displays that capture history, artifacts and memorabilia of Poland, the Ashton area settlement, and community efforts to preserve their Polish hertitage. Then Ms. Piechota explained the museum’s development, the process that lead to financing a new facility, and community events that continue to support it.
