The holiday traces its roots back to the late 19th century when labor unions pushed for a day to honor workers and recognize their contributions to the nation’s growth and prosperity. The holiday was formally recognized by President Grover Cleveland in 1894, making it one of the oldest public holidays in the United States.

On August 19, the CCHS class of 1948 held its 75th reunion at the Lincoln Manor Steakhouse. Five Classmates: Mildred Christenson Anderson, Dale Hildebrand, Kent Newmyer, Jim Roubal and Don Reeves attended in person. Joining the group using a Zoom connection were Beverly Larson McIlnay andAnn Faeh Elkjer. Classmates Verna Marie Baker Grant and Helen Mesner Casper had expressed their interest, but were unable to take part.
