As the 2023 growing season comes to an end, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will contact producers nationwide to gather final yearend crop production numbers and the amount of grain and oilseeds stored on their farms. At the same time, NASS will survey grain facility operators to determine year-end grain and oilseed stocks stored in commercial facilities.

93% of Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company (NNTC) customers, including those in Clarks, will receive a check from the company in December, totaling just under $4.7 million! NNTC is one of seven telephone cooperatives in Nebraska. Co-ops have the ability, with board approval, to pay their customers back as the company’s financial situation allows.

Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Parkside Plaza Community Room in St. Paul, Ne for the Chapter’s annual Society Birthday Party. Twelve members gathered for the 11:00 A.M. meeting, and Vice President Jackie Mason called the meeting to order with recitation of the Collect and singing of the DKG Song. Minutes for the October meeting were read and approved as corrected. The Treasurer’s report was read by Mason in the absence of Dianne Vorderstrasse. Old business included a brief review of the State Quarterly with emphasis on State President Lauren Walker’s biennial theme “Every Member Matters.” This theme will be used as a touchstone across the state for enriching, maintaining and increasing membership in the Society. Also, Kappa members were reminded to mark their calendars for the Nebraska State Convention to be held in April in Kearney, Ne. Kappa will need to provide a specially-themed basket for the annual fund raising auction, so Mason encouraged members to generate ideas before the January and March meetings.

Mortgage refinancing has long been a valuable option for homeowners looking to save money. Refinancing has become an especially enticing option since the onset of the pandemic, as mortgage interest ranks have sunk to historic lows. Despite that, a recent survey from Bankrate found that 74 percent of homeowners who have had the same mortgage since before the pandemic have not refinanced.

The Thanksgiving spirit was in full force at Central City Public Schools this year, as students were treated to an extraordinary culinary experience. Breaking from tradition, the school’s staff, including teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators, collaborated to create a Thanksgiving meal that not only nourished the body but also the soul.
