Extension hosts INVENTURE Day for local students

In an innovative move to foster entrepreneurial skills among the youth, Merrick County Extension, in collaboration with Central City High School, orchestrated the inaugural INVENTURE Day on November 9th, 2023, at the PAC in Central City. This event brought together 7th grade students from Central City, Palmer, and Nebraska Christian schools in an endeavor that is as educational as it is inspiring.

Museum honors local women veterans with special Veterans Day program

On the Sunday of Veterans Day weekend, the Merrick County Historical Museum held a special presentation at the Venture Center. The presentation was on women veterans of the United States Military and four women veterans from Merrick County who had come to share their experiences with those in attendance.

Residents of Merrick County in need of driver’s examination services will have a brief window of opportunity on Friday, November 17, 2023. The Driver’s Examiner will be available at the Merrick County Courthouse in Central City, from 8:15 a.m. to noon and from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. However, due to ongoing statewide shortages of examiners, this will be the last scheduled session in Merrick County for the remainder of the year.

FFA American Degree Honors

It was a busy week for local FFA members who made the trip to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. The event is a spectacle designed to honor FFA through fun and education. The event also presents an opportunity to honor those like John Hostler, Kenzie Wert and Seth Wert of the Central City FFA Chapter who received their American Degree. For High Plains FFA it was Tyler McNaught and Emma Snoberger who received the honor. Not able to attend was Conner Carlson of Central City and Trevor Carlstrom, Shelby Warnick, Cole Swedenburg, Gordona Howell, and Caleb Swedenburg of High Plains FFA. (Courtesy Photos)
