County-level estimates for 2023 small grain acreage, yield and production are now available, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The estimates, based primarily on surveys conducted with farmers and ranchers last fall, can be accessed using the Quick Stats online database at: http://www. nass.usda.gov/Quick_Stats/.

Nebraska catile on feed down 1%

Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or morehead, contained 2.58 million cattle on feed on December 1, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This inventory was down 1% from last year.

All layers in Nebraska during November 2023 totaled 8.17 million, up from 7.23 million the previous year, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Nebraska egg production during November totaled 206 million eggs, up from 165 million in 2022.

Merrick Arts Council to welcome Dallas Brass to Central City, January 19

Merrick Arts Council is very excited to bring the internationally acclaimed Dallas Brass to Central City on Friday, January 19 at 7:00 p.m. The theme of the program, American Musical Journey, will sample American music history from the time of George Washington to the present day. The concert will include feature pieces with members from the following schools’bands: Central City Middle School and High School, Palmer, St. Paul, Cross County, Nebraska Christian and Hampton Public Schools.
