On a serene Saturday evening, the Grand Island Elks Lodge 604 buzzed with anticipation and warmth as community members and local heroes gathered for a night of celebration and gratitude. Amidst the spirit of unity and service, the ceremony shone a spotlight on the brave individuals who safeguard our community, with Officer Grady Wranek of the Central City Police Department receiving a distinguished honor for his extraordinary courage and quick action.

The Green Plains Ethanol Plant in Central City recently marked its 20th anniversary of operations. Over these two decades, the plant has seen several changes in ownership and undergone significant expansion. Throughout its operation, it has been a beacon of productivity, leveraging the hard work of local farmers who deliver their corn during the peak seasons to produce ethanol.

As the crisp pages of scripts fluttered and the low murmur of lines being rehearsed filled the air, students from High Plains Community, Central City, and Nebraska Christian demonstrated their oratory prowess at the NSAA District Speech Competitions, paving their way to the 2024 State Speech Championships at Kearney High School.

Monday night there was plenty of great photos to be found as the Central City United Methodist Church was the site of a special night of fun, inspiration and faith. Prior to the DeMoine Adams (top, middle) speech local Teammates coordinators Hillary Ferris (left, CCPS) and Karen Benner (right, HPC) posed for a photo with the organization’s CEO. Another team player was Central City’s Barry Carlson who played a large role in making the night happen along with the help of many other Methodist men who also made sure that the night was a success.

Emphasizing the importance of protecting and even growing federal risk management programs with the next Farm Bill, Nebraska Farm Bureau’s (NEFB) agricultural leaders met with Nebraska’s congressional delegation and other elected officials during a national affairs fly-in to Washington, D.C. March 11-13.
