In recent years the Central City Bison and Polk County Slammers softball programs have been on an upward trajectory leading to many battles during the high school season and over the summer. It is no surprise that both team have had record seasons and now will both advance to the NSAA State Softball Championships in Hastings, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Bison picked up two wins over Ponca by a combined score of 19-0 in the district final while Polk County defeated Gothenburg by a combined score of 15-4. The Bison enter as the fourth seed while the Slammers are the seventh seed. For up to date results follow us on social media during the tournament.

There is always something special about homecoming night as parents, fans and alumni are welcomed with open arms as a school’s football team entertains on a Friday night. Some of that homecoming magic was in the air this past Friday at Nebraska Christian where the fans did not leave disappointed after a 26-22 victory over Sutton helped to lock up a playoff spot for the Eagles.

The Nebraska Christian volleyball team has found success this season with a 22-6 record on the season thanks in part to their great senior leaders. Left to right are: Claire Pipher, Kaylee Powell, Reghan Flynn, Maryah Wheeler and Sophie Swanson who this past week helped get the Eagles back on track with wins over Osceola and St. Edward. The Eagles now will soar into the Goldenrod Conference Volleyball Tournament where they will face either Elba or Heartland Lutheran at Nebraska Christian on Thursday at 7:00 pm.

It has been a great season for the Nebraska Christian cross country team with plenty of hardware along the way. Much of their success comes from the leadership of their senior class including, Back row: Malachi Zarauba, Truitt Merchant, Amanda Carlson, Marlie Mundt, Isaac Herman, Riley Schreiber, and Tug Burdett. The bricks continue to stack up for the Central City High School volleyball team who already doubled their win total from a season ago and came into last week looking for more tallies in the win column. With a pair of wins on Thursday the 8-15 Bison now will set their sights on the Lou-Platte Conference tournament.

When Ashton Gragg received the opening kickoff on Friday night and quickly pitched the ball to Tyler Carroll on a reverse, nobody knew just what lied ahead. The play would find solid success setting up the Bison with great field position, but success would be something that the Bison were able to find time and time again as they battled Fairbury.
