It was a year to remember in the Republican-Nonpareil sports coverage area as we take a look back at 2022 with our five top moments from the year.

It was a night for the record books as the Central City Bison wrapped up the first stretch of the basketball season with a 49-33 victory over Bruning-Davenport/Shickley to open the Runza Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Coming off of a 44-24 loss to Doniphan-Trumbull on Friday night, the Central City girls’ basketball team looked to finish strong before the moratorium as they opened the Runza Holiday Basketball Tournament a couple days ahead of schedule due to impending weather.

The 2022-23 wrestling season continues to roll on and with it the Central City High School wrestling team looked to get in plenty of mat time ahead of the holiday break.

Christmas came a bit early for AZ3 as hit a career milestone that many basketball players strive for, their 1,000th career point. Zikmund became just the second Bison to reach the 1,000 point milestone and did so in just his junior season.

The Central City girls’ basketball team now finds themselves with a 1-5 record on the season, but not necessarily because of a lack of effort. Tuesday Addie Buhlke (left) showed her heart and grit while freshman Reagan Fousek (right) also helped lead the team in scoring.

It was a big week for Tristan “Termintor” Burbach who added to his list of victories. The impressive list hit triple digits on Saturday when Burbach was able to secure his 100th career victory early in his junior season to add to an already impressive list of career accomplishments.

It has been a season with plenty of success already for the High Plains Community wrestling team and last Friday they took to the mat at the Platteview Invitational against some quality competition. The team once again found success as multiple wrestlers brought home a medal.

The Central City girls wrestling team continues to keep showing their growth as the team sees more mat time throughout the month of December.

Last Friday in the Eagle’s Nest, (top) took flight as he soared through the air for a highlight reel layup. The night belonged to Parkview Christian end the end as the Eagles were defeated.
