Coming into the opening round of the Class D-1 football playoffs there was plenty of excitement surrounding a big matchup between the Nebraska Christian Eagles and the Alma Cardinals. The Cardinals came into the matchup providing plenty of excitement with a high-powered passing attack, but the Eagles were battle tested and ready for whatever came their way.

The Central City and Aurora rivalry is one that predates us all, but it is one that has also lost some of its luster over the years as the two schools have drifted apart in classification. Last Friday electricity was in the air as the rivalry was renewed and the two schools found themselves locked in a fierce battle on the gridiron.

Coming into the season Nebraska Christian volleyball coach Amy Schreiber has some big holes to fill in her lineup and as the season drew near many questions were still left to be answered. You wouldn’t have guessed that in the D1-6 subdistrict on Monday and Tuesday as the Lady Eagles have come together to play as a team and secured victories in dominant fashion.

At Nebraska Christian you can find a great tradition of outstanding athletes and many of those can be found in the card catalog under cross country. It was another outstanding season for the Eagles cross country team as it all came to an end last Friday at the NSAA State Cross Country Championships.

The message was simple for the Central City High School volleyball team coming into the season as they made “Brick by brick” their motto for the season. The mission was to build upon a three-win season in 2021 and help turn the program in the right direction.

If you were looking for exciting volleyball action on Tuesday night then Polk, Nebraska was the place to be. Monday night High Plains Community wrapped up a quick victory over Nebraska Lutheran (2513, 25-23, 25-22) setting up a big match against Exeter-Milligan who they had split games with earlier in the season.

There was no guessing if the Nebraska Christian Eagles would make it into the 32-team Class D-1 playoffs as they had already wrapped up a spot ahead of their final regular season contest. There was still plenty to play for as the Eagles looked to send their seniors out with a victory on senior night and also stay hot heading into the playoffs.

Coming off of a heartbreaking loss to one of the states top teams the Central City High School football team knew they needed to take care of business on the road against St. Paul last Friday.

It is hard to even begin to recap an outstanding season for the Central City High School softball team. It was a season that brought with it a school record for wins in a season (26), a winning streak for the record books and last week it came to an end with a fourth-place finish at the NSAA State Softball Championships.
