In the big city of Omaha, the CHI Health Center turned into a battleground for Nebraska’s finest high school wrestlers this past weekend, setting the stage for the 2024 NSAA State Wrestling Championships. Among the contenders, the Central City Bison stepped onto the mat with determination, aiming to etch their names into the annals of wrestling glory.

The 2024 NSAA State Wrestling Championships, held at the CHI Health Center, became a stage for both triumph and heartache for the High Plains Community Storm wrestling team. Amidst the fierce competition, the Storm wrestlers showcased their skill, determination, and spirit, culminating in a series of performances that will be remembered for years to come.

At the 2024 NSAA State Wrestling Championships, a solitary figure represented Nebraska Christian with distinction, marking a significant milestone in the school’s wrestling history. Zach Huenefeld, competing in the 165-pound division, not only showcased his formidable wrestling skills but also embodied the spirit of perseverance and excellence that defines Nebraska Christian’s athletic ethos. Under the guidance of Coach Greg Smith and Carl Mundt, Huenefeld’s journey through the tournament was a narrative of resilience, skill, and the relentless pursuit of greatness.

The High Plains Storm girls’ basketball team, in a thrilling display of teamwork and resilience, emerged victorious in their sub-district final against Nebraska Lutheran with a score of 50-42. This pivotal win propels them into the D2-5 District Final, inching closer to making their debut at the state championships, a first for High Plains Community.

Central City Class C - Tristan Burbach 1st place 144 lbs, Bryce Kunz 2nd place 157 lbs. High Plains Community Class D - Lance Russell 2nd place 126 lbs, Wyatt Urkoski 2nd place 175 lbs, Gage Friesen 3rd place 144 lbs, Hudson Urkoski 5th place 120 lbs. Nebraska Christian Class D - Zach Huenefeld 4th place 165 lbs.

The Central City High School wrestling team made a formidable statement this past Saturday at the NSAA Class C District 1 tournament, clinching the district runner-up title, with only Crofton/Bloomfield outpacing them. In a display of skill, resilience, and sheer determination, seven Bison wrestlers punched their tickets to the NSAA State Wrestling Championships in Omaha, setting the stage for an intense showdown as they chase glory on the mats.

In a display of resilience and skill, the Nebraska Christian wrestling team competed in the NSAA Class D District 2 tournament, with Zach Huenefeld standing out as the team’s beacon of success. Huenefeld, in the 165-pound class, secured a 2nd place finish, marking him as the lone Nebraska Christian wrestler to qualify for the prestigious NSAA State Wrestling Championships.

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, the High Plains Community wrestling team emerged victorious at the NSAA Class D District 3 tournament, clinching the district team championship and securing four state qualifiers in the boys division. Their success was mirrored in the girls division, with Dakota Gress making a significant impact at the NSAA Girls District 3 meet.
